Look, we love a bright pattern or a silky soft sheet as much as the next person - but when it comes to getting the most out of your Puradown quilt or pillow, what you put on the outside matters just as much as what’s inside.

Because even the best goose down quilt can only do so much if it’s wrapped in a fabric that’s basically plastic.

Let’s talk about how to choose bedding that plays nice with down.

Your Quilt’s Only as Good as Its Cover

If you've invested in a naturally breathable, insulating product like a Puradown quilt - made with premium duck or goose down, it deserves to be covered in something that actually lets it breathe. Otherwise, you might be trapping in heat, moisture, and… regret.

Natural Fibres Are the Secret Ingredient

Here’s what we recommend (and why):

🛏️ 100% Cotton

Soft. Breathable. Classic.
Cotton allows air to flow freely, which means your quilt can regulate your body temperature the way it was designed to.

🌿 Linen

Naturally temperature regulating, strong, and effortlessly cool (literally and aesthetically). Linen is perfect if you're a hot sleeper or live in warmer states like QLD or NSW.

💨 Flax Linen

A premium version of linen. It’s lighter, softer over time, and even more breathable. Great for pairing with a duck down quilt in tropical climates or transitional seasons.

What to Avoid (No Offence)

  • Microfibre: Sounds high-tech, but it’s just plastic in disguise. It traps heat, holds onto sweat, and suffocates your quilt.

  • Poly-cotton blends: Budget-friendly, yes. Breathable and natural? Not quite.

If your sheets aren’t helping your down breathe, you’re basically turning your bed into a sweaty sandwich. Don’t do it.

Let Your Quilt Do Its Job

Puradown quilts are designed to insulate and regulate - meaning they keep you warm in winter, cool in summer, and comfy in between. But that only works if your covers and sheets let air circulate naturally.

Wrap it right, and your down quilt will work smarter, not harder.

Quick Tips Before You Buy

  • Look for the words “100% cotton”, “pure linen” or “flax” - not “poly blend”.

  • If it feels like your quilt is overheating, check the fabric first before blaming the fill.

  • Natural doesn’t have to mean neutral - there are plenty of gorgeous colour and texture options out there.

Final Thought: Your Down Deserves Better

You wouldn’t put a premium cut of steak in a plastic bag and microwave it, right? Same deal here. Natural fill needs natural fibres. That’s the secret to great sleep (and not waking up in a tangle of sweat and regret).
